Downtown Georgetown

All downtown BIAs have the same goal – to encourage more traffic and ultimately increase traffic and sales in their downtown business district. The Georgetown Central Business Improvement Area acts as a unifying body for its membership – working to make Downtown Georgetown a “destination” not only for its retailers and restaurants but for its professionals as well. BIAs function best through the co-operation of each and every business.

The goals of the Downtown Georgetown BIA include revitalizing the downtown area through regular maintenance, facade improvement, streetscape and public art programs, special events and promotions and municipal partnership.

The Georgetown BIA has one full-time manager, Wendy Farrow-Reed and two regular part-time staff, Joe Penney is the BIA’s Maintenance Man and can be seen on the street every morning doing his morning rounds, and Sheena Switzer (Matthew Bloomfield is currently assisting) who is the Farmer’s Market Manager. For any questions call the BIA office at 905-873-4970.

Every business within the Downtown Georgetown BIA area is automatically included in the BIA membership and contributes to the BIA budget through a special levy.

The BIA Board of Management establishes a budget every year which is approved by the BIA membership at their annual general meeting in February and then submitted to Town Council. A mil rate is calculated by the Treasury Department of the Town of Halton Hills to realize that budget figure. The mil rate is applied to the realty value of the business property and then only varies by the size of the annual budget. The money is collected through property taxes and allocated to the Board of Management of the BIA.

A BIA is built on Ontario’s Past, Provides Shops and Services for the Present and Preserves Ontario’s Past for the Future!
