This weekend is the Acton Leathertown Festival. As we get excited for the date lets take a look at the history of the Leathertown Festival and how it has evolved over the years.
Acton was once the site of the largest leather tannery in the entire British Empire. The leather industry was among the first major industries to develop in Canada. Leathertown Festival is a celebration of the history of Acton and their history with the leather industry.
Acton's Beardmore Tannery
The first festival started in 1977 and was known as Acton Days. The community gathered to help increase commercial activity in Downtown Acton. The funds raised that year were used to help refurbish Acton Town Hall. In 1992 the event evolved into what is known today as Leathertown Festival.
Since then the festival has continued to evolve to what it is today. Food, vendors, music & entertainment for everyone, Leathertown festival is an event that you do not want to miss! This years event will be the largest that Acton has ever seen. The festival has expanded and there will be more 150 vendors at the festival this year.
Make sure you head into Acton on Sunday August 11th from 11:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. to experience what Acton & the Leathertown Festival has to offer. This is an event you do not want to miss!
