Music, shopping, and fun return with this treasured community event on Sunday, August 14th from 11 am to 5 pm on Mill Street E, Acton, Ontario.
Leathertown: A Community History
Since the early 19th century, Acton marked itself as one of Ontario's major centres for leather production and tanning: hence the nickname "leathertown". The Leathertown Festival has connected community members to celebrate Acton and its history associated with the leather trade and Canadian craftsmanship since 1977. On the festivals' 45th Anniversary, attendees can expect an exciting exhibition of regional business and talented musicians as it returns in-person for the first time in two years.
What is Leathertown?
Listed in the top 100 festivals and events in Ontario, Leathertown can best be described as a day-long street festival and outdoor concert series. Organized by the Acton BIA, the entire Downtown Core will be pedestrianized to make room for over 100 street vendors and three concert stages. As well, check out the classic automobiles showcase at Willow Street South. Spot your favourite superheroes and princesses with special appearances by Anna, Elsa, and Spiderman in addition to other children-oriented vendors! Throughout the day, there will be over 13 performers including the award winning band, Wicked Truth. Simply put: the day is a family affair!
Live Music!
Three large stages will surround the festival hosting performers from 11:30 am - 4:30 pm. Stay tuned for the entire concert schedule soon!
Reconnecting: Understanding the Theme
The Leathertown Festival in 2020 and 2021 moved to a virtual format; however, the organizers and community are excited to bring back the beloved in-person format. For 45 years, Leathertown has celebrated Acton's rich tradition of craftsmanship and community. This year, event organizers are excited to carry on the tradition of bringing visitors and residents together, while also supporting local and regional artists.
Local Vendors at Leathertown
Most of your favourite Acton businesses will be open as normal. Some restaurants, such as Tommy's Bar and Grill, will have additional patio space to serve customers! Every more reason to visit and check out the exciting things the day has in store.
With over 100 vendors in attendance, there are so many ways to shop local at Leathertown. Are you or one of your friends a lover of craft beer? The Wellington Brewery, one of Canada's oldest craft breweries, will be selling a selection of their award winning craft beers made in Guelph, Ontario! A local favourite is Black Creek Coffee. They will be opening their first retail and cafe location in the Georgetown Mall in the fall! In the meantime, bring home a bag of their coffee beans roasted in their Mill Street location in Acton! A full list of vendors can be found on the official Leathertown website.
